Project |02 Stuart Beavon Interview

Beavon looking for more game time

NORTH END striker Stuart Beavon will be hoping Tuesday night’s impressive performance against Peterborough has done enough to earn him another place in the team on Saturday against Crawley Town.

It’s been a tough year for the former Wycombe man who has featured in the starting line-up just a handful times this season.

He told The Score: “It has driven me to a bit of frustration. But I just knew I had to wait my turn. It was nice obviously to be involved again, I really enjoyed it. And like you say getting plaudits from the fans, the manager and the players is really nice.

“I wanted to play games that was all. I spoke to the gaffer a few times and said, I want to play games, he understood were I was coming from and he said to me be patient, and I did.

“None of us want to be left out and obviously I’ve been out for a while, came back in and just was hopeful that I would take my chance.

“I didn’t think I would do the 90, not playing in 3 months. I’ve played one reserve game, I didn’t think I would last that long. I think training every day and working hard has kept me in good shape."

The Lilywhites have been in great form throughout most of the campaign, recording just five defeats. Tuesday’s victory over play-off rivals Peterborough maintained their firm grip on the play-off places.Beavon paid tribute to the quality of the squad and in particular Preston’s leading marksman Joe Garner.

He continued: “I think it’s improved a lot, all the boys are working together, from where we were in the league before, to where we are now, you can see yourselves how much we have improved.

“We’re fifth in the league and fourth for a long time, Garns has scored loads of goals the boys have been playing well, you can’t really argue."

Preston face a rejuvenated Crawley side at the weekend and North End will be looking to better their 2-2 draw away earlier in the season to keep the pressure on the top two.

Beavon added: “Crawley will be very tough, they’ve picked up a bit I have seen. The game down there last time was a very tough game and we were unlucky not to take the points. We were cruising along and it’s just a lack of concentration, it was two points dropped.

“You can probably count how many times we have given away late goals were we should have took the points. If we had bit better in the last few minutes of games, we might be talking a different story now, we might be a bit higher up, but we are still confident we can push the top two places.

“We are looking forward to Crawley and hopefully we can pick up the three points this time.“The top two are a few points ahead, but footballs a funny game you know and we’re confident we can win our games and that’s what we aim to do.”
