Forward thinking for Shrimps ace
MORECAMBE striker Kevin Ellison believes the club are heading in the right direction despite their 5-1 defeat to local rivals Accrington Stanley.
Tuesday night’s game at the Crown Ground ended a run of three impressive results for the Shrimps; taking maximum points at the Globe Arena over Southend United and Newport County, followed by a creditable point on the road at Dagenham and Redbridge.
Despite the setback the 38-year-old striker hasn’t ruled out a late charge for the play-offs.
He told The Score: “If you’d have looked before the Southend and Newport win, I think a lot of people were looking at us in the mix with the bottom teams. We got two good wins and everybody’s talking about play-offs again.
“We’ve had a bad result, obviously it’s a derby so it’s a bit more hurtful but we will keep doing our job and see where that takes us. I’m not ruling it out.
”Saturday’s attentions turn to Northampton Town who themselves will be looking to get back to winning ways, after being booed off in their last game losing 3-0 to high-flying Rochdale.
Ellison continued “It’s a massive game, Northampton are down the bottom fighting for their lives in this division and we’re also coming off the back of a bad result, so we will be ready for this game Saturday.
“We know we weren’t good enough Tuesday, It’s not acceptable; the manager has let the team know that and we are hoping to put that right on Saturday.
“As a team we weren’t good enough, a lot of people will look at the defence but it’s as a whole, there’s eleven players out there and it’s up to us to stop them scoring; as a team.
“A win and we are right back in the play-off mix.”
